The Idea

Simone sketches the first concept for a lamp shaped like a giant pair of tailor's shears, with the blades doubling as the light source.

May 2020

YouTube Video

Simone builds the first prototype from welded steel and hidden LED strips. The YouTube video quickly surpasses one million views.

June 2020

Maker Kit Prototype

Stu and Simone explore turning the Scissor Lamp into a DIY kit. After building a few prototypes, the idea is shelved because it's too complex to manufacture.

August 2020

The Goose Neck Problem

With the launch of Yetch Studio, the project is revived. Replacing the flexible gooseneck with a vertical mounting transforms the lamp's silhouette and becomes the foundation for the final design.

August 2024

Design for Manufacturing

The team refines the base through numerous prototypes and develops custom electronics that automatically switch the light on and off as the scissors open and close.

October 2024

Final Scissor Lamp

After six years of development, the Scissor Lamp enters production. The finished design stays true to the original concept while incorporating custom tooling, electronics, and a mechanism that makes opening and closing the scissors both functional and fun.
